nterview with a Future Esports Star: Genka Zitrix and the World of Dota 2
Recently, I had the chance to interview an aspiring esports player who goes by the nickname Genka Zitrix. The interview lasted only three minutes, but in that short time, I learned a lot about the world of competitive gaming and the legendary game — Dota 2.
Genka Zitrix came across as a passionate and determined player with big dreams of going pro. He explained that esports today is not just a hobby — it’s a serious profession. The top teams and players attract millions of viewers and compete in tournaments with prize pools that can reach tens of millions of dollars. One of the most famous tournaments is The International, held annually and considered the biggest event in Dota 2.
He described Dota 2 as a real-time team strategy game, where two teams of five players battle on a large map. The main goal is to destroy the enemy’s central structure called the “Ancient.” According to Genka, the key to winning isn’t just individual skill — it’s about teamwork, strategic thinking, game sense, and mastering hero abilities.
I also learned the basics of the game: Dota 2 features over a hundred unique heroes, each with different skills and roles — some defend, some attack, and others support or heal. Genka pointed out that things like positioning, map awareness, and timing are crucial — knowing when and how to use your abilities and items can decide the outcome of a match.
Although he’s not yet part of a major team, Genka trains every day, improves his skills, watches pro matches, and participates in online tournaments. He dreams of joining a top esports organization and one day playing on stage in front of thousands of fans.
Talking with Genka Zitrix opened my eyes to how deep and serious esports can be. Behind every win are hours of practice, strategic thinking, and real passion for the game. Now, knowing a bit more about Dota 2 and the life of an esports player, I see this virtual world in a whole new way.
