Erasmus Project Brings Code and Creativity Together: Students Develop Arcade-Style Hack-and-Slash Game

As part of a school Erasmus+ initiative, I, along with my team of three people, took part in a unique interdisciplinary project that combined design and programming. The result of our work was a fully playable arcade-style hack-and-slash game created entirely from scratch.

For us, this wasn’t just an assignment — it was a real adventure into the world of game development. Working together, we built a simple yet exciting game that featured movement mechanics, jumping, running, and combat. While the gameplay was intentionally kept basic, the final result turned out to be polished, engaging, and technically well-crafted.

We handled the entire development process ourselves: from early concept art and level design to coding the character movement and enemy behavior. This experience helped us develop both our creative and technical skills — we learned how to work as a team, solve problems, design user experiences, and write functional code.

One of the most valuable parts of the project was how each of us contributed based on our strengths. Some focused more on programming, while others handled visuals, sound, or the interface. We learned how to communicate, divide tasks, and support each other — just like in a real game development team.

Thanks to Erasmus+, we got a glimpse of what it’s like to work in the game industry and discovered how powerful the combination of creativity and technology can be. Most importantly, we saw that even a simple idea can turn into a real game — if you have a team and the passion to make it happen.

This project was an unforgettable experience for us and a powerful reminder that learning can be both meaningful and genuinely fun.
